THE KELP STORE
ØY - FESTIVAL OF ISLANDS
FESTIVAL OF ISLANDS
Curated by Saoirse Higgins and Jonathan Ford
ØY MANIFESTO
Illuminated by the light of the moon and under natures gaze, islands have taken their own evolutionary path, developing individual visions of culture and ecology. These island systems of language, folklore, ecology, architecture, craft and making are a beacon to us all. Island identity serves as a testament to human ingenuity and resourcefulness. The ØY festival celebrates this and seeks to innovate by collaborating creatively on such notions of island identity.
FESTIVALS PAST
The ØY Festival emerged from the sea in 2016. A festival on an island, about islands. Curated by artists Saoirse Higgins and Jonathan Ford, the ØY Festival challenges and investigates distinct notions of islands every year. With a programme of invited artists, writers, filmmakers, performers, scientists and everything in between. The festival brings three days of island immersion to Papay, and The Kelp Store, every November. ØY showcases contributors from Papay, Orkney, Scotland and the rest of the world.
FESTIVAL FUTURE
The ØY Festival, will again surface on the horizon in 2020. With a new take on Island surveys, destined to change the way we look at islands forever.
